Silent discos are where it’s at right now and The Silent Disco at The View From The Shard is the pick of the bunch.
Five star interiors, a top notch sound system and a carefully curated selection of music certainly don’t hurt. At the end of the day, however, it’s the views that really steal the show.
The Shard is one of Europe’s tallest buildings which means that revellers have access to some of the most breathtaking views of the capital that you could possibly imagine.
The music’s not bad either. The blurb on the website advises visitors to “pick your channel and choose your side” as three DJs battle it out over separate wireless channels playing the best in pop, rock and party classics.
Ok, but what even is a silent disco?
The idea is a relatively simple one. Instead of massive speakers, the music is pumped through wifi connected headphones to individual clubbers. Revellers have a number of music channels to choose from and they can switch between channels as often as they wish.
So, it must be deathly quiet, right?
Despite what it says on the tin silent discos are actually anything but silent. It’s true that there is no loud thumping music– the headphones take care of that – but if you thought that no music equals quiet, then you’d better think again. As it turns out, silent disco goers absolutely love a sing-song.
And who could blame them? Think about it – your favourite tune is playing and everyone else is wearing headphones – you couldn’t ask for a better opportunity to indulge in a spot of risk-free karaoke.
The future of clubbing?
The silent disco movement has been growing in recent years, with venues that have traditionally been unable to host a old school club night eagerly jumping on the silent disco band wagon.
Ok, I’m sold but how much does it cost?
The event is certainly not cheap, however, with tickets retailing at £29.50 but for that money you do get a truly unique experience as well as a fantastic story to impress your workmates on a Monday morning.
