London is blessed to have two of the biggest flower shows in the world in the Chelsea Flower Show and its sister, the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show (HCPFS). Both take place in spectacular locations with the Royal Hospital Chelsea playing host to the Chelsea Flower Show and Historic Royal Palace’s Hampton Court Palace again welcoming the HCPFS.
The events are quite distinct however, with Hampton Court much more focused on the environment, gardening and cookery.
The show is run by the Royal Horticultural Society with the event featuring a dazzling array of show gardens, pavilions, marques and nurseries. HCPFS is also known for its across the board appeal, with numerous family friendly activities designed to encourage children to take up gardening.
Shopaholics will not feel left out either with a huge Floral Marquee filled with every type of plant known to man, as well as a host of equipment and furniture for your garden.
Last year’s event featured some of the biggest stars of horticulture with the influential Dutch garden designer Piet Oudolf the first figure to be honoured by the Royal Society. The designer worked with the RHS to create “a whimsical walk-through feature for your delight and enjoyment” and the attraction proved to be one of the highlight’s of the 2018 show.
The RHS also commissioned a spectacular display of thousands of Verbena bonariensis plants for the event which gave visitors a spectacular visual spectacle as well as an opportunity to indulge in a bit of photography.
Another new feature called “Evolve” took visitors on a journey through the history of flora with a cleverly crafted experience that sought to answer the question of what the first plants on earth looked like.
The show also welcomed a host of floral exhibitors including:
- Salutation gardens
- Moore & Moore
- English Iris Company
- Hedgehog Plant and Garden Nursery
- New Forest Hosta
The Hampton Court Palace Flower Show 2021 will take place at Hampton Court Palace from the 6th to the 11th of July 2021.
