Basketball Playoff Finals, 02 London

The grande finale of the British Basketball season is coming up and it looks like another sell out crowd at the O2 to witness it. Peter Gray reports

If b-ball if your thing, then brace yourselves because the biggest match in British basketball is coming up. The Basketball Playoff Finals is the grande finale of the domestic basketball season. The game pitches the two best sides in British basketball in head to head combat for the right to be crowned Playoff champions. The finals are played in front of a basketball crazy sell-out crowd at the O2 arena in London.

The Basketball Playoff finals are the culmination of the British basketball league season. The competition is contested by the eight sides with the highest number of points from the regular league season. These teams are seeded based on their final position in the league with the 1st seed playing the 8th, the 2nd seed playing the 7th, the 3rd seed playing the 6th and the 4th seed playing the 5th. These ties are played over two legs with the teams playing each other both home and away.

The winners of these matches then battle it out in the semi-finals with the highest remaining seed playing the lowest and the other winning quarter finalists contesting the game. These fixtures are also played over two legs. The two triumphant sides then face off in the O2 final.

The popularity of basketball is growing in Britain and last year’s final drew a record breaking crowd to the O2. The organisers of the competition anticipate another sold out event for the 2019 final too.

The Basketball Playoff finals will take place at The O2, London, on Sunday 19 May 2019.
