Silent Disco at the London Aquarium

For just £29, you can strut with the sharks and shimmy with the jellyfish at the Silent Disco at the Sea Life London Aquarium. Peter Gray reports.

In London 2019, having a drink and a dance in a regular bar or nightclub is simply not enough. There are clubs at the top of skyscrapers (the Silent Disco at the View from the Shard), clubs in former public toilets (Cellar Door) and bars made of ice (the Ice Bar). So, when you consider the competition, is there really anything that strange about a club in an aquarium?!

The Silent Disco at the London Aquarium is hoping to trade on the recent popularity of silent discos. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term, silent discos are a form of nightclub event where the music is piped through headphones to each individual clubber. One of the benefits of the format is that you can choose what you listen to. The Sea Life event offers three channels of music, so if you get tired of one channel you can simply switch to another.

A spate of such events has sprung up in London in recent years with the aforementioned Shard the undisputed king of the genre. However, what the Sea Life venue lacks in panoramic views it more than makes up for in value for money with your £29 ticket buying you a night of incredible tunes, a guided tour of the brand new jellyfish exhibition and a welcome drink.

You also get a load of fish for your money. Arrive early if you want to wander the exhibits and see some of Sea Life’s exotic residents under the neon lights. You won’t be able to see the whole Aquarium unfortunately, but you’ll certainly get a tantalising taste of what’s on offer with the main Aquarium (the one where the sharks reside) and the jellyfish passageway open to the public. Even better, if you have a question about any of the fish, the Aquarium staff are on hand to answer your questions. Can fish dance? We’ll leave that to you to decide but from what we saw on the night we went, they certainly enjoy a good party.

One of the only drawbacks of the event is that it does end at a relatively early 11.45pm (apparently, even the jellyfish need their beauty sleep!) nonetheless, the Silent Disco at the London Aquarium is well worth a visit and you will certainly be glad you came.

The next event will take place on the 20th of December 2019 at 7.45pm with the event finishing at 11.45pm. Tickets cost £29 and are available from the website.
