London is truly blessed when it comes to festive skating rinks. There’s the magnificent offering at the Natural History Museum, the equally stunning set up at the Tower of London, the enormous rink at Winter Wonderland, and that’s not to mention the countless other smaller rinks dotted around the capital. Right at the top of the pile, however, is the amazing Skate at Somerset House.

Set in Somerset House’s magnificent 18th century courtyard, Skate benefits from a backdrop that has graced countless movies, films and TV shows. This impressive setting is enhanced by a truly festive dressing, with the showpiece being the breathtaking 40ft Christmas tree.

For 2021, Skate has returned with an impressive partnership with Moët & Chandon – which means that you won’t have to worry about what you are going to drink at the event. The venue will also offer a Christmas gift selection from Hotel Chocolat, alongside a delicious range of food and drink.

And just to ensure that the venue offers something for absolutely everyone, Skate is putting on a thrill packed programme of events for Christmas 2021. From skating lessons with Skate School, to the ultimate nightlife sets from trailblazing DJs on rink-side decks at Skate Lates with UNIQLO, SKATE has covered every taste and pocket.

And if you feel peckish, the venue has teamed up with Pop Up king Jimmy Garcia for alpine restaurant pop up, Chalet Barragiste, which will offer the ‘perfect post-skate treat’. Guests can also celebrate the season at the Skate Lounge by Moët & Chandon, ‘where indulgent champagne and cocktails await’.

Then there’s the Fortnum Lodge, which will offer visitors a festive mix of mulled wine, champagne and mince pies as well as a selection of winter dining classics like raclette, cheese fondue, smoked salmon and mince pies. And if that wasn’t enough, there’s also a Christmas Arcade stuffed full of ‘posh nosh’ from event sponsor Fortnum and Mason with the focus this year on chocolate.

The present Somerset House dates from the 18th century when the previous house on the site was demolished and architect Sir William Chambers set about building his grand neoclassical masterpiece. Since then the building has served as a home for the Royal Academy of Arts (they vacated the building in 1837 for the National Gallery), the Navy Office and the Inland Revenue. The building is now home to over a hundred tenants including the British Fashion Council and the Royal Society of Literature. It has also become a home to several cultural events including the Somerset House Music Series which has featured such artists as Adele, Ellie Goulding and Norah Jones.

Skate at Somerset House will run from the 17th November 2021 until the 16th of January 2022. More information about the event can be found here,
