Aaah Quaglino’s! Old style glamour and a Mayfair address give this 90 year old West End institution some serious cachet. The venue has been the haunt of royalty, socialites, celebrities and debutantes since it first opened in the 1920s, however, the restaurant’s current owners, the D&D group, are keen to move with the times, and thus Quaglinos is now home to a growing roster of musicians, singers and other performers.
Join Quaglino’s on the 17th of February 2019 for a special late Valentine’s Day celebration dedicated to the music of Marvin Gaye. You will be able to hear all of your favourite Marvin Gaye recordings including Let’s Get it On, I Feel Love and offcourse Secual Healing with the superb Nate Simpson on lead vocals.
Tickets for the event will cost £48 and this will include a glass of champagne.
Quaglino’s was founded in the roaring 1920s and during this period the eaterie welcomed the cream of London society to Bury Street with everyone from the Mountbatten’s to the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII) dining at the restaurant.
By the 1950s the restaurant was regularly frequented by royalty and it was even said that Quaglino’s kept a permanent table reserved for royal guests. In 1956, Queen Elizabeth II became the first reigning monarch to eat at a public restaurant when she dined at Quaglinos. making her the first reigning British monarch to eat at a public restaurant. Princess Margaret, the Duke and Duchess of Kent and Princess Alexandra were also frequent guests.
Despite its royal clientele the restaurant went into a period of decline in the 1950s and it was not until the 1990s after its purchase by furniture designer Sir Terence Conran that Quaglino’s began to rebuild its reputation.
In 2014 the restaurant was bought by the D&D group who immediately set about dramatically refurbishing the venue.
