If you love Jazz, then you will certainly love the EFG London Jazz Festival which returns to London for ten jam packed days in November 2020. The Festival is produced by jazz curators Serious and the festival is certainly serious about quality with some of the most acclaimed artists in the jazz world coming to London each November.
This year’s festival will begin at the Royal Festival Hall on November 16th with Jazz Voice. The event will see Guy Barker’s 42-piece orchestra teaming up with such luminaries as Lisa Stansfield, Lea Delaria, Canadian jazz vocalist Laila Biali and MOBO winner Zara McFarlane. The event will be hosted by Jumoké Fashola.
Another highlight of the festival will be a performance by Prince protégé Kandace Springs at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. The super talented singer is riding on a wave of acclaim from her recently released second album, Indigo and Springs will no doubt be keen to show off the voice that Prince once said, “could melt snow”. The singer will be at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on the 17th of November.
Other highlights of the November Festival include a performance by Orange is the New Black’s Lea DeLaria. Better known to fans of the show as the Big Boo, Delaria will be showcasing her big, powerful voice on a variety of standards. Delaria will be at the Bridge Theatre on November 18th.
The EFG London Jazz festival debuted in 1992, after its creators Serious took the decision to enlarge upon the long running Camden Jazz Week. Since then the festival has gained an impressive reputation for both attracting heavyweight performers from the jazz world and also showcasing upcoming home grown talents.
Gigs take place at a variety of venues across the city including the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, the Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall and the Omnibus Theatre. Open air events are also frequently included on the bill.
In the past the festival has attracted the likes of Wayne Shorter, the Gipsy Kings and Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra onto its roster.
The EFG London Jazz Festival will run from the 13th to the 20th of November 2020.
