If you love Jazz, then you are sure to love the EFG London Jazz Festival as it returns to London for ten jam packed days in November 2022. The Festival is the work of jazz curators Serious and the group are certainly serious about the quality of music on offer, with many of the most acclaimed artists in the jazz world hightailing it to London for the festival in previous years.
Disrupted by the pandemic for the last couple of years, 2022’s event is looking like it will be back to its very best with a full programme of events lined up. The 2020 event was the first in the history of the festival to be staged wholly online & the 2021 event, while featuring a mix of online and IRL events, was also heavily disrupted.
While details of this year’s event have not been announced yet, last year’s festival saw the likes of Guy Barker, saxophonist Archie Shep and Ego Ella May gracing some of London’s coolest venues.
Guy Barker and the ever wonderful EFG London Jazz Festival Orchestra performed a series of jazz soundtracks from popular movies. Archie Shepp joined pianist Jason Moran for a thrilling live musical exchange at the Barbican while Ego Ella May appeared alongside a plethora of the jazz scene’s best up and coming singers at the Royal Festival Hall’s rousing Jazz Voice event.
The EFG London Jazz festival debuted in 1992, after its creators Serious took the decision to enlarge upon the long running Camden Jazz Week. Since then the festival has gained an impressive reputation for both attracting heavyweight performers from the jazz world and also showcasing upcoming home grown talents.
Gigs normally take place at a variety of venues across the city including the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, the Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall and the Omnibus Theatre. Open air events are also frequently included on the bill.
The EFG London Jazz Festival will run from the 11th to the 20th of November 2022.
