If you’re sick and tired of the vegans having all the fun, then never fear, there’s now a festival for meat eaters. It’s called Meatopia and it’s coming to London’s Tobacco Docks this summer.
The slogan for the festival is “meat drink fire music” and that pretty neatly sums up what’s on offer at the event. Meatopia began in the US with the aim of showcasing high quality, ethically sourced meat and the chefs who cook it. The event was an immediate success and the festival has quickly grown, adding music, events and a host of top chefs.
Now a staple of the London food & drink calendar, Meatopia is back in 2019 with a dizzying line up of star chefs and excellent food tasting opportunities.
Tom Brown, Nieves Barragán Mohacho and James Cochran are just some of the star names confirmed for this year’s event with more guests expected to be announced soon.
Tom Brown is the fast rising star of Hackney newbie Cornerstone. The chef, who trained under internationally renowned cook Nathan Outlaw, started the restaurant on a shoestring budget but it has quickly gained a reputation for the elegant simplicity of its dishes.
Nieves Barragán Mohacho is the Barrafina escapee who has since repeated the trick in her Mayfair restaurant Sabor. The cosy venue, with its relaxed open kitchen bar has won rave reviews in the past couple of years for its classy take on traditional Spanish cooking.
James Cochran, the ‘Champion of Champions’ of BBC Two’s Great British Menu 2018, is the owner and head chef at Islington eaterie 1251. The chef, who is part Scottish and part Jamaican, has previously worked at the Ledbury and the Harwood Arms where his eclectic comfort food mixed such unlikely bedfellows as Pigeon and liquorice.
Apart from the food, the festival will also feature live music, top quality DJs, workshops and live demonstrations.
Meatopia will take place at London’s Tobacco Dock on the 30th of August and 1st of September 2019.
