Following hot on the heels of his sold out show at Hackney’s Earth, multi instrumentalist Jordan Rakei will be bringing his eclectic mix of soul, r’n’b and jazz to Dingwalls as part of the 6 Music Festival.
The new date will coincide with Rakei’s biggest ever solo tour, which the artist has undertaken in support of his critically acclaimed 2019 album release, Origin. The collection follows 2016’s LPs Cloak and 2017’s Wallflower.
Origin sees Rakei drawing inspiration from such left field sources as Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror and Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale for a collection which explores the idea of a dystopian future.
If this sounds like an odd subject for a pop album, then rest assured – Jordan Rakei is nowhere near your average pop star.
Rakei’s music is rich and deep, with a harmonic and lyrical depth quite uncommon in today’s pop music.
The album sees the London based Australian singer on excellent form too, with two stunning singles, Say Something and the lilting Mind’s Eye, providing a good example of what to expect.
Musically, the set follows the path set by the singer’s previous albums, with an eclectic range of genres and moods, held skilfully together by Rakei’s impressive songwriting and soulful tones.
The artist arrived in the UK from Australia in 2015, hell bent on forging a career in the music industry. Since then, the artist’s career has gone from strength to strength, with a plethora of musical heavyweights including the BBC’s Annie Mac lining up to champion his cause.
In that period, Rakei has released three well received albums, launched several popular singles, as well as clocking up over 100m streams on Spotify alone.
The artist is a highly accomplished live performer too, with a string of prestigious performances, including Glastonbury and SXSW, to his name. Indeed, the demand for tickets to see the artist play live is so great that Rakei’s gig at Earth sold out in just under one hour.
Jordan Rakei will perform as part of the 6 Music Festival on the 7th of March at Dingwalls . More information about the gig can be found here.
