London is currently awash with drive in cinemas. The venues are springing up all over the city, with five separate companies recently announcing plans to open in the capital. To that list we can now add The Drive In Club, as the company announced this week that they were to open a venue in London.
Its not hard to see why the venues are currently so popular. After all, the cinemas are perhaps the perfect attraction for pandemic Britain: parties are able to maintain social distancing, interaction is kept to a minimum, and the events take place in the open air.
Not that the Drive In Club is not your typical outdoor movie theatre, however. The venue may offer up the usual mix of big cinema releases, but the company are keen to mix things up a bit, too.
In addition to your standard blockbuster fare, therefore, the Drive In Club is also planning to screen a series of gigs, podcasts, Q&A sessions and live comedy. It’s the last item on that list which is currently causing all the excitement.
A drive in cinema dedicated to comedy is certainly a novel attraction and the Drive In Club’s comedy roster is certainly impressive. The company have amassed a formidable list of performances from some of the best comedians in the business, people like Dom Joly, Jason Manford and Shappi Khorsandi.
Film fans will not be left outm however, with a line up of blockbusters including Rocketman, Pulp Fiction, Priscilla Queen Of The Dessert, Paddington, Up, Captain Marvel and the Life Of Pi.
Kids are catered for too, with a dedicated programme of screenings for juniors. This will include The Sooty Show, Basil Brush, Wreck It Ralph, Wall-E and Zootropolis with more titles set to be announced shortly.
The Drive In Club will be at Brent Cross from the 3rd of July and Dagenham from the 10th of July. Admission will be £40 per vehicle with tickets available to purchase here.
