What started as a bit of a laugh is quickly developing into quite a side line for Gizzi Erskine and Professor Green as a new Giz & Green pop up opens at Shoreditch restaurant Passo.
The best mates began teaming up to cook during the lockdown, with Giz & Green’s Monday Night Fakeaway being the result. Live streaming on Instagram the chef and the rapper attempted a new dish each week, showing Brits how to fake their way to classic takeaway dishes at home.
The sessions proved so popular that the duo are now extending their partnership with a collaboration with Hackney based Italian restaurant Passo.
The partnership will see Erskine and Green ahem Giz and Green showcase one of the biggest successes of their brief social media residency – their deep dish stuffed crust pizza.
The pizzas come in a range of flavours, including Hawaiian, Pepperoni and Chicken BBQ with all the ingredients for the pizzas locally sourced.
“The hospitality industry has taken a devastating hit through lockdown, and whilst the delivery sector has done its best to adapt, the supply chain is still really struggling. We are hoping to give an opportunity to local chefs and producers to get back to work” said Gizzi Erskine about the deal.
Professor Green, meanwhile, had this to say about the Passo collaboration: Learning to cook these ‘Fakeaway’ recipes was a Godsend and a real laugh during lockdown in Morocco. It’s been so cool seeing the amazing response and it feels great to be able give back, especially considering I grew up in East London.
Giz and Green’s pizzas will be available for both dine-in and delivery/collection.
Passo is at 80 City Rd, Old Street, London EC1Y 2BJ. More information about the pop up can be found here.
