Doctor Who – Time Fracture

Get ready to immersive yourself in the incredible world of the Time Lord. Welcome to Doctor Who - Time Fracture. Peter Gray reports.

A “ground-breaking” immersive version of Doctor Who is coming to London later this year and tickets for it are now on sale! Doctor Who -Time Fracture will plunge theatre goers into the incredible world of the time travelling physician, as he tries to save the world from a mysterious weapon of mass destruction.

The blurb for the new production says: “it’s the height of the Blitz. A weapon of unknown origin destroys a small corner of Mayfair, and simultaneously opens a rift in space and time For decades, UNIT have fought undetected to protect the people of Earth from the dangers it poses. Weakened and beaten back as the fracture’s multiplied out of control, they’re close to defeat”.

If this all sounds a bit grim, then it also sounds like the perfect setup for the Doctor (as well as his many iconic enemies). The producers of Doctor Who: Time Fracture are promising Daleks and Cybermen by the truck load, as well as the return of a character from the recent multi platform Doctor Who story, Lord Victorious.

Being an immersive production, the audience will not be completely spared. The publicity material for the show hints that theatre goers will have a role to play in the production, saying simply that audience members will be required: “to step up and be the hero”.

Writer Daniel Dingsdale has payed homage to the show’s rich legacy in the new production, creating a show that he hopes will entertain newcomers to the Doctor Who universe as much as diehard fans. Doctor Who: Time Fracture is directed by Tom Maller (Secret Cinema) with set designs by Rebecca Brower.

The new Doctor Who experiences comes from the phenomenally talented Immersive Everywhere group – the people behind the long running immersive production of the Great Gatsby. Gatsby is now the longest running immersive theatre show in London and also one of the most critically acclaimed. The company have teamed up with BBC Studios for Time Fracture, with the new production expected to open in February 2021.

The new show will open at Immersive London’s Mayfair event space. The venue, a former drill hall, will be completely made over to give the interior the look of Westminster in 1940.

A teaser trailer for the production has also been released, although going by the footage, it is clear that the producers are keeping their cards close to their chest.

Doctor Who: Time Fracture opens on the 26th of May 2021. Tickets can be purchased here.
