This week we’re crushing on the Rondo bar/restaurant at the Hoxton, Holborn. Super stylish, seriously cosy, and very welcoming, the venue has a warmth and charm lacking in many similarly sized big budget operations.
Part of the Hoxton Hotel chain’s Holborn branch, the Rondo officially opened in August 2020, although the launch of the venue was somewhat overshadowed by events going on in the UK at the time.
The Art
But what’s so special about the venue, we hear you ask. Well, let us count the ways. The first thing that strikes us when we walk through the door of the venue is the extravagantly coloured murals.
The artwork, which adorns one large wall at the restaurant, is quirky, fun, and, we imagine, not to be taken too seriously – much like the Hoxton itself. The work is by the British abstract artist Laura Wickstead, whose best pieces explore our perception of shape and structure.
The Interiors
The Rondo’s redesigned interiors are breathtaking, with a playful aesthetic featuring bold prints, velvet textures, crazy paving floor, brass fixtures, pink metro tiles, and a stunning wood bar whose brass and copper features shimmer in the soft overhead lights.
The changes to The Hoxton’s lobby are not merely cosmetic, however. The hotel has considerably enlarged the space, introducing a new range of “eclectically-sourced” and a standalone coffee bar; as well as the new restaurant and wine bar.
These are not the only changes that the hotel has made, either. The Hoxton’s Holborn branch has also added nearly fifty rooms, as well as completely redesigning its event spaces.
Food & Drink
Food and drink wise, the restaurant offers an inviting mix of British dishes with seasonal ingredients. These are nicely complimented by the venue’s wine list, which features a carefully curated selection of European wines from some of the continent’s best winemakers.
Under the management of William Lander (Quality Chop House, Clipstone) and Chris Gillard (St John), the restaurant’s aim is to be the kind of restaurant that you dream of having at the end of your street. Well, after a dreamy afternoon at the venue, it seems like they’ve succeeded.
