Berners Tavern

Looking to impress? You couldn't do much better than the Berners Tavern. City Countdown Food Columnist Tammy Lim reports.

Concealed within the London Edition Hotel lies a sophisticated, upscale restaurant that serves contemporary British cuisine. One of the highlights when dining in Berners Tavern is the sensation of being transported to a different, more classical era. From the high ceilings to the chandelier and of course the intriguing portraits of various sizes hanging on the walls, the restaurant ignites a special and almost magical dining experience.

Menu Options at the Berners Tavern

Berners Tavern  provides a la carte, lunch and sunday lunch options. The menu offers warm and comforting dishes (think steak with a side of mac and cheese) but elevated with modern cooking styles (think triple cooked chips) that suits the modern day palette. Upon its reopening, set lunch will be available Wednesdays – Fridays at £24.50 for 2 courses or £29.50 for 3 courses. Adapted to pandemic times, the restaurant is also offering take-away options for its beloved humble mac and cheese on Wednesdays – Fridays between 12pm and 2pm for 15 quid.

Sunday Roast at the Berners Tavern

Following the ethos of its sibling restaurants, the restaurant serves up high quality food where each ingredient is cooked with care. The classic Sunday Roast provides a good portion with perfectly cooked sirloin and a side of potatoes that has crunch on the outside but soft on the inside. In addition, it comes with a super flavor-packed gravy that ties the whole meal together. Another highlight would be the Côte de Boeuf which offers a selection of sauces and a B.L.T salad (perfect for date night). This is very similar to the Côte de Boeuf offered in sister restaurant Social Eating House which offers different sides.

Unrivalled Personal Service

The service at Berners Tavern is top-notch. They would even offer to reheat the food which is next level of thoughtfulness. There is also the iconic Champagne trolley that gets pushed around the dining room. Cheers!

The Berners Tavern is the kind of place that never fails to impress. As part of ‘The Social Company’ led by critically acclaimed chef Jason Atherton, the restaurant lives up to the high-standards of its siblings. From the wonderment of the beautiful, classy surrounding to the actual execution of food, it is definitely a must-try.
