The Show Must Go On at the Palace Theatre

Mama Mia, Evan Hansen & the Prince of Egypt are among the musicals taking part in the initiative. Peter Gray reports.

If you’re currently feeling theatre deprived (hey, aren’t we all?) then this might just be the event for you. The Show Must Go On! will see the Nimax owned Palace Theatre stage a socially distanced tribute to London’s cancelled musicals.

The event, which will take place over four nights in June 2021, will see the historic theatre play host to some of theatreland’s biggest stars for a series of magical performances with all the proceeds going to theatre charities.

Musicals scheduled to take part include & Juliet, Jamie, Mama Mia, Come From Away, Dear Evan Hansen, Prince of Egypt, Six, Tina and Wicked with more shows expected to be added to that list in the coming days.

The show will see the cast of each musical perform highlights from their productions with a few surprises thrown in for good measure. And given the list of talent on display, the event is shaping up to be a non stop musical extravaganza.

Nimax Chief Executive Nica Burns had this to say about the initiative: “We are delighted to be hosting these special concerts: The Show Must Go On Live!  at the Palace Theatre where all profits will be going to theatre charities. It warms the heart to see all these fantastic West End shows coming together to benefit our community. A big thank you to everyone taking part on stage and off and a special shout out to the producers, The Theatre Support Fund+ and Take Two Theatricals for making it happen. Please rush to buy tickets and help out whilst enjoying a wonderful, socially distanced evening!”

The Palace Theatre’s capacity has been reduced to allow for social distancing and the theatre has taken a number of other measures to ensure that the venue is covid secure. This includes taking the temperature of guests, using contactless tickets and ensuring that the theatre is deep cleaning regularly.

The Show Must Go On! Will be at the Palace Theatre from the 2nd to the 6tg of June 2021. Tickets can be purchase here.
