The Maiyet Collective

city:countdown Fashion Editor Florrie Alexander reports on The Maiyet Collective Pop Up on Molton Street.

If you’re planning a trip to London for some early Christmas shopping, make sure you add The Maiyet Collective to your list of destinations. Located on fashionable South Molton Street, the Collective presents a dazzling selection of conscious luxury brands all under one roof.

The selection of pieces range from womenswear, to jewellery, to beauty, and, until the end of November: the Irish luxury handbag brand, Taylor Yates.

These bags don’t just look great, they are also beautifully designed. Made from biodegradable sheep leather, Taylor Yates’ products are carefully constructed to ensure the leather retains the desired structure and look, whilst also considering the environmental impacts of traditional leathers.

The company’s sustainability practices go even further, however. Taylor Yates’ bags are made in a British factory with an impressive record of investing in the indigenous communities of the countries in which it operates. The factory has long established trading links with Ethiopia, with community wide support for employees, including an on site clinic and resources for schools.

Each Taylor Yates bag is named after a woman who exerted an impact on the creator’s life. There’s Tilly, Elsie Alice, Frances, Norma, and quite a few more. The company is a firm supporter of women’s groups, too, with strong links to Women For Women International, a nonprofit organisation that helps effect change in the lives of women across the global.

The Maiyet Collective believes that brands do better in collaboration, and Taylor Yates is certainly in good company in the Collective’s Molton Street store. The space is filled with like minded creatives and brands whose ethos matches that of the Maiyet Collective.
