Why do car boot sales immediately have me conjuring up images of Del Boy with a car load of hooky gear? Nope? Me neither. The Virtual Car Boot Sale is going to be absolutely nothing like that. An online fashion extravaganza on behalf of a worthy cause, the event will see a distinguished line up of designers, style influencers and coveted brands delving into their wardrobes and collections in aid of charity.
The event will be hosted on Instagram, with each seller hosting their own virtual car boot sale on their channel at a predefined time. The line up for the event reads like a who’s who of the world’s top fashion designers with Emilia Wickstead, Rejina Pyo, Anya Hindmarch, Yasmin Sewell and Alice Temperley all taking part in the initiative.
All of the proceeds from the sale will go to Women for Women International, a charity that helps women survivors of conflict rebuild their lives. Begun in 1993 by Iragi American humanitarian Zainab Salbi, the group offers the women a range of training programmes to help them learn the skills to earn and save money and improve the lives of their families.
