With the promise of 5D effects and virtual & augmented realities, Jeff Wayne’s The War Of The Worlds – The Immersive Experience looks set to wow audiences all over again when it reopens in London in June 2021.
The show, which was forced to close in March 2020 due to the pandemic, puts the audience at the heart of the story, using a series of cutting edge technologies.
What is the immersive experience about?
“With journalist George Herbert as your guide” says a press release for the show “he will take you through a feature-length plot of 24 scenes with the challenge of covering a full kilometre of movie sets, as you duck, dodge and slide your way through the 2-hour attack from the Martian force”.
“Visitors will meet a colourful cast of characters as they visit the Royal Observatory, sneak into a deserted house, and escape London on a boat down the Thames, whilst trying to survive the Martian invaders” the statement continues.
The cast of War of the Worlds – The Immersive Experience
The cast for the new show will consist of 12 live actors, interactive holograms of Tom Brittney and Anna-Marie Wayne, plus the recorded voices of Moody Blues’ Justin Hayward, Inglorious’ Nathan James, and Kaiser Chief’s Ricky Wilson.
At the heart of it all, however, will be the music of Wayne. The composer’s celebrated 1978’s debut album, Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of the Worlds, is the basis of the musical. The album went on to sell over 16 million copies and, in the process, becoming the 32nd best-selling studio album of all time in the UK.
Wayne was clearly delighted by the new immersive version of his work: “My musical version of The War of The Worlds has now occupied a good part of my life, and I’ve been fortunate to see it grow in so many unexpected ways. TWOTW Experience is one of those, a different world of entertainment, led by a group of diversely talented people” he said.
When will the Immersive Experience return?
The War of The Worlds will run from Wednesday the 2nd of June until Saturday the 4th of September 2021. Tickets for the show will go on sale on the 20th of November 2020 and can be purchased here.
