Opening a business in the middle of a pandemic is certainly not a job for the faint hearted, but for Sven-Hanson Britt and his partners Tris Hillier and Scott Ward, it was not quite mission impossible, either.
The trio recently opened Homestead in South London. The first new restaurant in the London City Island development, the venue will morph into an all-day eaterie once the lockdown is over, but for now, Homestead is open for takeaway only.
If Hanson Britt’s name sounds familiar, that’s because you’ve probably caught him on an episode of Masterchief: The Professionals. The talented chef reached the final of the show in 2014 with a return appearance on MasterChef: The Professionals Rematch in 2019. At Homestead, the Londoner will oversee the food, with Hillier and Ward providing the business acumen.
Ex Maze chef James Durrant has been put in charge of the kitchen at Homestead. Durrant, who previously worked at The Stafford’s in house restaurant The Game Bird, has over 20 years experience in the food industry, having learnt the ropes at Maze under Gordon Ramsey.
The restaurant’s current takeaway menu includes the following dishes:
- Aubergine Massaman curry
- Cobble Lane chorizo and peppered salami pizza with La Latteria mozzarella
- Chicken Kiev sandwich with raw cabbage and Caesar dressing and Banh Mi
- Crispy roast pork belly, ham and chicken liver terrine, pickles, chilli and coriander.
Homestead is at 45 Hope Street, Poplar, London E14 0QL. More information about the restaurant can be found here.
