Air Jordan 1 Retro

The Air Jordan 1 is celebrating its 35th birthday with a bold yet charming refresh. Peter Gray reports.

To celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Air Jordan 1, Nike are releasing a refreshed version of the trainers entitled the Air Jordan 1 Retro. The original release, which became an immediate sensation the day legendary sportsman Michael Jordan wore his first pair on court, has gone on to become one of the most iconic sports shoe brands in the world.

Now tastefully refreshed for the twenties, the Air Jordan 1 Retro has the classic feel you know and love, yet with a bold colour scheme that cleverly updates the style.

The first thing that strikes you about the shoes is the return of the iconic high top style, however, here the silhouette is adorned in a new colour scheme with Volt, Sail and University Gold combining  to striking effect.

Said to draw its design cues from previous AJ1 colourways ‘which left a cultural mark’, the Air Jordan 1 Retro features an exposed foam tongue and  transparent, reversed tag to give the shoe a ‘deconstructed feel’, while the silhouette itself harks back to the original formula.

The Air Jordan 1 Retro (Volt Gold) will be available from selected stores on the 16th of January 2021. More information about the trainer can be found here.
