The Gantry Hotel

East London's spoilt for choice when it comes to great hotels and with the arrival of The Gantry in Stratford in July - it's only going to get better. Peter Gray reports.

Stratford’s transformation into London’s most happening quarter continues apace with the forthcoming opening of The Gantry Hotel.

Complete with its own sky bar and destination restaurant, the venue will add to the growing list of attractions that can now call the East London borough home.

Designed by the Ardmore Group (The Ned, The Corinthia), The Gantry’s exterior features a striking façade with a system of copper coloured fins rising up the cladding. Selected to celebrate the area’s industrial railway past, the fins will allow the hotel’s appearance to subtly change throughout the day as the light and shadows change.

Part of the Curio Collection (Hilton Hotels), The Gantry will boast 285 guest rooms, a ground floor market, ‘extensive neighbourhood bar and restaurant spaces’ as well as the aforementioned sky bar and destination restaurant.

And if that wasn’t enough, the owners of the venue are promising two terraces for alfresco dining and a food market on the ground floor.

Stratford hit the news in 2005 when the International Olympic Committee Olympics awarded Stratford the right to host the 2012 Olympic Games.

The award led to the commencement of a major regeneration project in the area, with improvements to transport services, infrastructure, and associated venues.

The games proved a resounding success and also the catalyst for further investment in the area, with a spate of housing schemes, hotels, hospitality venues and attractions soon winging their way to E14.

Then, in 2019, planning permission was granted for a major cultural quarter in the area of the Olympic Park. Three major new venues were to be created for cultural institutions – with the V&A, the BBC, Sadler’s Well and the London College of Fashion all expressing an interest in moving to the site. Called East Bank, it is hoped that the centre will one day rival the cultural centre on the Southbank of the Thames.

The Gantry hotel will add another world class notch to Stratford’s burgeoning reputation as an arts and cultural centre. With an eye catching design and top class facilities, the venue is another welcome addition to London’s luxury hotel offering.
