A Year Like No Other tells the story of the extraordinary planning and preparation that went into the National Youth Dance Company’s 2020 collaboration with Russell Maliphant for Sadler’s Wells.
Having begun preparations for the production in early 2020, several months before the pandemic began to sweep across the country, the company were then forced to watch as their upcoming residency, world premiere and tour were cancelled.
Due to the incredible determination of the company, Sadler’s Wells and Russell Maliphant, however, rehearsals were able to continue, albeit in a radically altered form.
This video tells the story of how the company managed to keep the production going. It is a story of highs, lows and everything in between as a group of young people negotiate the strange world of the ‘New Normal’.
