Absolutely Fabulous actress Jane Horrocks stars opposite Samson Kayo in Sky’s ‘odd couple’ comedy Bloods this March.
Horrocks, who came to prominence playing Bubble in the smash hit BBC1 comedy, will play NHS worker Wendy in the new series, which was penned by co-star Kayo.
The show follows a pair of beleaguered Paramedics working in a fast paced ambulance crew in South London, with Bloods charting Maleek and Wendy’s struggle to gain the respect of their fellow paramedics.
Here’s everything you need to know about Bloods.
Bloods plot
When paramedic Maleek’s regular partner leaves the ambulance service, the tough acting loner finds himself working with overly friendly divorcee Wendy.
Things do not run smoothly, however. “Maleek and Wendy’s partnership looks dead on arrival” says the synopsis for the show on the Sky One website. The mis-matched pair bicker constantly, and they soon find that they are rubbing each other up the wrong way.
An ensemble ‘odd couple’ comedy, Bloods charts the pairs unlikely friendship and their struggle to establish themselves in the fast paced world of the ambulance service.
“I’m super excited to show the world Bloods especially because I almost became a paramedic”, says series co-creator and star Samson Kayo. “Lucky for the NHS, however,I chose to play the character instead!
I’m looking forward to hopefully bringing a bag of laughs to Sky with the lovely team at Roughcut who have some quality comedies under their belt!”
Bloods cast
Kayo plays loner Maleek. Still grieving over the loss of his previous paramedic partner, Maleek is suddenly forced to adjust to someone with a very different style.
Horrocks plays newcomer Wendy. Recently divorced from her husband, the paramedic is glad when she gets a job with the Ambulance Service, although she is blindsided by the fast pace of the job.
“I am very much looking forward to working on Bloods and being paired with the extremely funny Samson Kayo” says Horrocks of the show. “I know nothing of the world of paramedics, but maybe I need to overcome my fear of blood before I start.”
Joining Kayo and Horrocks in the cast are of Blood are Motherland’s Lucy Punch, Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh) and Gavin and Stacey’s Adrian Scarborough.
