Mortimer House may be closed right now but the venue’s guest chef series is very much alive with Hackney’s Pidgin Restaurant set to take up the baton over the next few months.
Over the past couple of years, the restaurant has played host to an impressive series of pop ups, with the likes of Mao Chow, Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen and Elizabeth Haigh high tailing it to Fitzrovia.
And judging by what’s on the menu from Pidgin, those high standards look set to continue in 2021. The Homing Pidgin menu will be available for collection and delivery for now, however, if you don’t mind eating out, then you are in for a real treat.
The first box contains:
- Focaccia & Brown Butter
- Flourish radicchio and fennel salad with stracciatella, thyme honey & blood orange dressing, spiced Brazil nut crumb and orange
- Master stock braised pork belly with kimchi polenta cake, master stock jus and wilted barese
- Sangiovese poached quince with arbequina olive oil custard and beremeal crumble.
Pidgin will be offering a small selection of wines to accompany the boxes.
As is the Pidgin way, the menu will change every week, however, going by the quality of the first week’s food, it certainly does sound impressive.
Pidgin’s James Ramsden was clearly thrilled to bring the Pidgin brand to a new audience in Fitzrovia: “This is a super exciting opportunity for us to work with some new chefs in a new kitchen and bring our Homing Pidgin menu to a wider audience” he said. “Our E8 community have been an incredible support, but it’s great now to be able to get Pidgin out to some more London postcodes. We love what Mortimer House do and are delighted to be a part of it while the world finds its way back to some kind of normality” he said to the Hot Dinners website”.
The Homing Pidgin Pop Up will be at Mortimer House from the 19th of February 2021 for two months. More details about the service is available here.
