Hollywood superstar Kate Winslet heads up the cast of HBO’s new crime drama, Mare of Easttown, this spring.
Best known for her role in the blockbuster movie Titanic, Winslet has a long series of credits to her name, including Sense and Sensibility, The Holiday, the Reader and Revolutionary Road.
In Easttown, the actress plays a detective who is struggling to solve a local murder while trying to keep her personal life from falling apart.
Billing itself as an exploration into the dark side of a close community as well as an authentic examination of how family and past tragedies can define our present, the series is one of the most eagerly anticipated new television shows of 2021.

Mare of Easttown plot
The seven episode series follows Pennsylvanian Detective Mare Sheehan as she attempts to balance the demands of her home and work life. A young girl has been murdered and Sheehan has been assigned to the case. As the case unfolds, however, Sheehan’s personal life begins to crumble.

Who stars in Mare of Easttown?
Academy Award winner Kate Winslet stars as Detective Mare Sheehan in the series. With such an illustrious career behind her, much is expected of the actress’s latest series with comparisons already been drawn between the new series and 2020’s HBO smash, The Undoing.
Filming on the new series has proved anything but plain sailing, however. Winslet has admitted that she the character’s distinct Delaware accent difficult to master. “It was up there with the hardest accents I’ve ever done, in the top three for sure,” she said, in an interview with Indie Wire. “It’s one of only two dialects in my life that made me throw things – that and the dialogue that they made me do in the movie about Steve Jobs.”
Joining Winslet on the set of Mare of Easttown is The Outsider’s Julianne Nicholson. The actress plays Mare’s best friend Lori Ross in the new series.
In addition to Winslet and Nicholson, Jean Smart pops up as Winslet’s mother Helen while Australian actor Guy Pearce appears as a creative writing professor named Richard Ryan.
Who’s behind the camera on Mare of Easttown?
Winslet’s influence on Mare of Easttown extends much further than merely acting in the show. The star has also got a production credit for Easttown, a role she shared with Brad Inglesby (The Way Back).
The Mare of Easttown is directed by The Leftovers’ Craig Zobel.
When will Mare of Easttown land on the small screen?
The series will premiere on Sky Atlantic on the 19th of April 2021.
