Following hot on the heels of the announcement of Crystal Palace’s inaugural South Facing Festival comes news of a new one day electronic music event called The Waterworks Festival.

Originally intended for 2020 and Leyton, East London, the new festival will now grace West London’s Gunnersbury Park in September this year. The music policy, set up and ethos remain the same, however.

A one day celebration of electronic music culture, Waterworks focuses on “the different flavours, strands and genres of dance music that have come to shape the musical landscape in the UK”.

This translates into an egalitarian, no headliners approach, with five equally sized stages and a line up including Craig Richards, Ben UFO, Shanti Celeste Midland, Call Super, Eris Drew FAUZIA, Novelist, Objekt, Krywald & Farrer, Body Hammer, Call Super and Saoirse.

“In the wonderful melting pot of sound and culture that is London’s music scene, Waterworks provides an outdoor summer platform that gives life to emerging artists and allows more established acts from the diverse electronic scene to flourish” says the website for the event.

Gunnersbury Park

And after the cancellation of the 2020 festival which was set for East London’s Leyton, Waterworks has moved from across the capital to West London’s Gunnersbury Park. Already home to Lovebox, the new venue should prove a good choice for the festival newbie, too.

Referencing the move, the website for the event says: “The festival will take place on Gunnersbury Park in a remote area, shrouded by woodland and with glimpses of industrial London over the treeline it is the perfect home to realise our vision”.
