Limin’ Beach Club

The capital is going al fresco dining crazy this summer and the Southbank's Limin' Beach Club is the place to be! Peter Gray reports.

Eat. Drink. Lime. That’s the simple motto of the Southbank’s Limin’ Beach Club. The first two on the list are simple enough to understand, however, if you are struggling with the third of those terms – here is the definition of the expression provided by the Limin’ Beach Club’s website:

“Limin’, pronounced Lime-in, is Trinbagonian for relaxing in good company with food, drink, music and barrels of laughter”.

Trinidad is the inspiration for the bar’s range of speciality plates, too, with Caribbean Classics and Trinidadian Street Food dishes on the menu.

The classics include jerk chicken, roti wraps with chicken or jackfruit, bake & sea bass and a scotch bonnet infused chicken wings bowl.

The Trinidadian Street Foods, meanwhile, includes such local delicacies as saheena, doubles, aloo pies, and barbeque sweetcorn. Saheena is a fried dish made from spinach, gram flour, dhal and several spices, while aloo pies are fried dumplings filled with mashed potatoes seasoned with coriander and roast cumin.

Doubles, meanwhile, consist of two flatbreads with spiced chickpeas, grated cucumber and sweet tamarind sauce.

The cocktails sound just as tantalising, tbh, with Executive Liquid Chef, Paolo Molinaro, offering guests a range of punches, chillers and cocktails inspired by ‘Caribbean culture and Mediterranean charm’. What this means in practice is a ‘dangerously tasty’ rum punch, a rum and grapefruit based Heming-My-Way cocktail and a plethora of virgin cocktails including the amusingly named Don’t Punch Me!
