Backyard Cinema specialise in bringing movies to life, using a variety of means including immersive sets, actors, and live music. For the company’s version of Romeo + Juliet, they’ve literally thrown the kitchen sink at the task, with a stunning setting (Islington’s Union chapel), a top notch choir (Some Voices) and a full concert of the movies songs.

Backed by a mini orchestra featuring bass, sax and violin, the choir’s signature style and easy charm will work its magic over the stunning music from the movie.

“We are proud to present a truly special performance of the greatest love story ever told” says the Backyard cinema website. “Screened under beautiful stained glass windows and set amongst the candle-lit aisles of the incredible Union Chapel, the Some Voices choir will sing before and after the film and perform live versions of the famous movie soundtrack, including Young Hearts, Everybody’s Free and Kissing You”.

Romeo and Juliet stars Claire Danes and Leonardo Di Caprio. The movie was released in 1996 to universal critical acclaim with many critics praising director Baz Luhrmann for his fresh and refreshing take on the Bard.
The film, which featured an all star cast, was to make stars of its two leads, Leonardo Di Caprio and Claire Danes.

The Union Chapel is a church, live entertainment venue and charity drop-in centre for the homeless in Islington. The venue was built in the late 19th century gothic revival style. Now Grade I-listed, the church represents an imposing presence at the Highbury & Islington end of Upper Street.
