Rulebreakers beware: Somerset House is set to unleash its brilliant new exhibition about the Beano comic this autumn. Beano: The Art of Breaking The Rules will look at how the popular British comic inspired successive generations of rulebreakers, while also looking at some of the other artists who pushed the boundaries in their work.
The exhibition will feature a series of original comic artworks and artefacts with the lionshare plundered from the Beano’s impressive archive.
The Beano gang are all showcased here, with original comic material featuring Dennis and Gnasher, Minnie the Minx, Bananaman and the Bash Street Kids.
The Art of Breaking Rules has been curated by lifelong Beano fan Andy Holden, with the aid of a series of contributors including Simeon Barclay, Holly Hendry, Sarah Lucas, Lindsey Mendick, Hardeep Pandhal, Heather Phillipson and cartoonist Martin Rowson.
“Calling all mayhem-makers and rule-breakers – Beano is taking over Somerset House!’ says the Somerset House website about the event.
“Prepare for your favourite Beano characters to shake things up as we celebrate the spirit of rebellion as only they know how, with our major new exhibition this autumn”.
So, if you’re fed up of playing by the rules, or even if you just want to revisit your childhood, Somerset House Iis going to be the place to be this October.
