Booking Office 1869

Following a tenth anniversary revamp, the Renaissance Hotel's stylish bar is all set to wow visitors once again. Peter Gray reports.

Uber chef Patrick Powell is set to oversee the ‘culinary direction’ of revamped bar/eaterie, Booking Office 1869, this October. The Irishman has become one of the most respected names in the restaurant industry over the last few years, thanks to his stellar work at such acclaimed eateries as Marylebone’s Chiltern Firehouse and Stratford’s Allegra restaurant, where he remains head chef.

The menus at Booking Office 1869 will certainly have Powell’s influence all over them with highlights including fried chicken with yoghurt & lime; barbecued carrots with braised grains & yoghurt; monkfish & potato curry with spinach; slow-roasted lamb shoulder with chermoula spices, brioche doughnut with caramelised apple & burnt cinnamon cream, and blackberry trifle.

The drinks menu, meanwhile, will see Bar Manager Jack Porter taking inspiration from the Victorian period with a series of cocktails that ‘incorporate Victorian materials’. Guests can take their pick from the Ol’ Signalman, with its mix of Pecan Nut Infused Bourbon, Cocchi Rosa and Coconut Bitters; the Victoria Sour (Barsol Pisco, long pepper spice & plum syrup), a House Martini (Hepple Gin, dry vermouth organic beeswax & black olive) and the Clear Margarita (a blend of agave, citrus & salt).

And just to ensure that diners have enough time to relax and enjoy the experience at the venue, Booking Office 1869 will be open until 12am on weeknights and 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
