FriendsFestive

The festive Friends event is back with a host of attractions and activities that will almost certainly delight the show's many fans. Peter Gray reports.

If you love Friends, then you’ll absolutely adore Comedy Central’s FriendsFestive. The broadcaster has teamed up with the UK’s largest producer of outdoor movie nights, The Luna Cinema, for the event, which will offer Friends obsessives the chance to relive some of their favourite festive episodes of the show.

Visitors will be able to check out the gang’s apartments, visit the world’s most popular fictitious coffee shop, Central Perk, and recreate the opening titles of the show – with a digital snow globe photo op.

Other highlights of the event will include a chance to re-enact the iconic Thanksgiving floating heads scene, an invitation to ring Phoebe’s bell outside the Mall, and an opportunity for guests to channel their ‘inner Monica or Ross’ as they grab a picture at the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Disco.

Visitors will also be able to kick back and relax while watching some of the best seasonal moments from the popular show.

And to get you in the mood for Thanksgiving, the Friends sets will be dressed for the festive season, with a range of themed food stalls and Christmas cocktails too boot.

Following the phenomenal success of the 2019 event, Friendsfestive will be returning to Shoreditch’s Truman Brewery in 2021 as part 1 of a two part UK tour. The other leg of the tour will see FriendsFestive set up shop at  Blackpool’s Winter Gardens.

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last twenty years, you won’t need us to tell you just how much of a cultural phenomenon Friends has become. The series has made massive stars of its five leading actors, David Schwimmer, Courtney Cox, Jennifer Anniston, Matthew Perry and Matt Leblanc, while simultaneously spawning a whole generation of similar shows.

And just to emphasis its enduring popularity even further, the show still attracts huge audiences in the UK in 2021. Friends airs on the Comedy Central channel with over 6m viewers tuning in to watch the series on a monthly basis. And if that figures seems incredible, the channel calculate that a phenomenal 38 million people have seen the show on the channel since the show debuted in October 2011!

The Luna Cinema is one of the world’s leading providers of outdoor cinema events. Founded by movie buff George Wood in 2008, the company have gone from strength to strength in the last 12 years, with their 2021 season boasting  150 screenings in over 60 outdoor locations around the UK.
