The Cursed Child

The latest instalment of J K Rowling’s’ epic adventure will reopen at the Palace Theatre in mid-October 2021. Peter Gray reports.

The producers of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child have announced that the play will reopen on the 14th of October 2021 at the Palace Theatre in London. The production, which has played to sold out audiences since its debut in July 2016, has been closed for over a year due to the global coronavirus pandemic.

Initial casting for the reopening has also been confirmed, with Jamie Ballard, Susie Trayling, Dominic Short, Thomas Aldridge and Michelle Gayle all returning to their respective roles in the production.

“We are all so excited to be coming back to the magical world of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and have utterly missed being at the beautiful Palace Theatre as a family doing what we love. There is nothing quite as special as being able to share that unique experience with our wonderful audiences. It will be an absolute joy for us to perform for them once again and to welcome them back to our very own Hogwarts!” said Ballard of the show’s return.

Split into two parts, The Cursed Child tells the story of a grown up Harry Potter as he struggles to deal with a rogue time turner as he also tries to balance the demands of family life. Set 19 years after the adventures of the books, The Cursed Child presents a new generation of would be wizards, with Harry, Ron and Hermione’s children now enrolled at Hogwarts.
