This week’s single of the week comes from r’n’b/jazz singer Alice Auer. A delicious fusion of mellow r’n’b and jazzy piano riffs, Turn Back Time provides the perfect backdrop to Auer’s beautiful voice.

The artist wrote the song in the summer of 2021, shortly after becoming involved in a horrific car accident. Choosing to recuperate at the home of her parents, Auer soon found herself reminiscing about her childhood, and these reminiscences quickly morphed into dreaming about what it would have been like to have met her parents before she was born.
Auer takes up the story: “Spending time with my parents, reminiscing about my childhood and when they were my age made me dream up these lyrics about meeting them before I was born and wondering what they’d think of me and the woman I am today.”

Turn Back Time sees the London based artist team up once again with her good friend and frequent collaborator Conor Albert and Albert’s smooth and soulful brand of neo soul evident throughout the track.

Auer’s jazz background comes through on the single, too. The artist has been a fan of the genre since childhood and she has often cited Chet Baker and Nat King Cole as two of her biggest influences.
The singer studied at the London School Of Music and once her studies were complete, Auer cut her teeth on the London jazz circuit playing at venues like The Dorchester Hotel and Pizza Express. The experience has evidently stood her in good stead, too, as Auer is just as good live as she is on record.
Alice Auer is a rare and exciting talent and her new single, Turn Back Time, is a truly unforgettable song. A sumptuous mix of downtempo jazz and buttery smooth r’n’b, the single perfectly showcases Auer’s remarkable talent and also cleverly sets the scene for the lady’s forthcoming first EP.
