The Great Feast

Michelin-starred chefs, creative cocktails, decadent desserts and live music are on the menu at Selfridge’s The Great Feast. Peter Gray reports.

As Christmas approaches, news reaches us of a fantastic new food and music festival in Central London. The Great Feast will see Dominic Cools-Lartigue and Selfridges combine for a one of a kind, multi-sensory event at the Old Selfridges Hotel on Orchard Street.

The Great Feast will feature four different food, drink and music experiences including a 50 metre ‘Counter of Joy’, the music focused Magic Garden, a dessert and cocktail bar called Wonky Dreams, and a multi-sensory theme park ride.

The event is centred around the wonderfully lavish sounding Counter of Joy. The facility will showcase the work of some of the nation’s finest chefs with Jason Howard, Chantelle Nicholson, Ravinder Bhogal, Andrew Wong, Selin Kiazim, Adejoke Bakare and Tom Sellers signed up to take part.

Guests will be invited to let their tastebuds wander ‘from the mountains of China to the coastlines of West Africa, city bakeries of Turkey and country pastures of the British Isles’ as the seven resident chefs present fourteen of their best dishes.

Guests will also have an opportunity to indulge in a mouthwatering seven course ‘tasting experience’ with dishes drawn from the Counter of Joy’s fourteen curated dishes.

And if you’re looking for something to wash your dinner down with – Wonky Dreams will offer festival guests a chance to sample a range of bespoke cocktails and decadent desserts. Avant-garde mixologist Rich ‘The Cocktail Guy’ Woods will be on hand to create a range of one of a kind cocktails while the Chin Chin Labs whip up a range of special festive desserts including Christmas crackers with edible gifts and festive tree-shaped Baked Alaskas.

The Magic Garden, meanwhile, will be offering music lovers a carefully curated selection of musical treats with the likes of Joel Culpepper, Yazmin Lacey and Etta Bond all set to appear live on stage.

Finally, completing the line up at The Great Feast will be a 45 minute immersive dining experience called Joyride. Described on the website of the event as “a multi-sensory three chapter tasting which explores pleasure & joy” ,the experience will allow visitors to explore exactly how taste, smell, touch, and sound combine to elicit pleasure.

Created by food anthropologist Caroline Hobkinson alongside award-winning chef Andrew Clarke, Joyride will use food, drink, imagery, smells, touch, and movement ‘to reveal what’s pleasurable for you.’

The Great Feast will be at the Old Selfridges Hotel from the 11th of November 2021 until the 18th of December 2021. More information about the event can be found here.
