“Step inside history’s most daring conspiracy” runs the tagline for London’s latest immersive experience, The Gunpowder Plot. The attraction, which marks a collaboration between Layered Reality and Historic Royal palaces, is centred around the failed attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605.
Although the conspiracy was thwarted by the authorities, the story of the plot has gone down into legend with the unfortunate Guy Fawkes (a minor player in the scheme) becoming the much reviled subject of England’s bonfire night celebrations.
“London, 1605. A city divided. The fuse of rebellion is lit. The peace of the nation balances on a knife edge…” says the website for the event. The Gunpowder Plot invites visitors to try to unravel the plot before the conspirators have a chance to achieve their wicked ends.
To do so, participants must enter ‘a world where spies and informants hide in every shadow’ as you go undercover to unmask the mysterious figures behind history’s most infamous plot. But be careful – when you’re surrounded by ‘traitors’ who can you trust?
Participants will be tasked with:
- Making a dangerous attempt to escape the Tower
- Uncovering a secret safehouse
- Making the daring journey along the Themes to the Houses of Parliament
- Foiling the conspiracy
The Gunpowder Plot will use a mix of live theatre and the latest digital technology to create a fully 360 degree immersive experience. The organisers are promising extraordinarily detailed 360 sets that you can ‘touch and feel and smell’, ‘boundary breaking immersive technology’ and ‘cutting edge theatrical innovation’.
Hannah Price, The Creative Director of The Gunpowder Plot had this to say about the forthcoming attraction: “It’s like somebody made a brilliant movie version of The Gunpowder Plot and it came to life around you and exploded in your face with bits of Jacobean London flying at you.”
The Gunpowder Plot will run from the at. More information about the attraction can be found here.
