It is the most popular sport in the world with a global reach of billions, yet how much do we really know about football and its meticulously crafted image. Football: Designing the Beautiful Game at the Design Museum will seek to answer this and other related questions.
Featuring over five hundred objects, countless films and interviews and sections on kit development and stadium design, Designing the Beautiful Game will seek to explore the story behind football, unpicking how design has been used to push the game to new limits.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to explore the master-planning behind some of the world’s best football stadiums, the design innovations used in today’s football boots, how the graphic design of team badges, kits and posters shape a club’s identity, and how grassroots initiatives are pushing back against the sport’s commercialisation.
“Whether you are a fanatical supporter, part-time punter or sporting sceptic, visitors to this exhibition will enjoy discovering the remarkable design stories behind the world’s beautiful game” says a press release for the exhibition.
So, if you live or breathe football or if you only turn on when England reach the knock out stages of the World Cup, Football: Designing the Beautiful Game is an exhibition you will not want to miss.
Football: Designing the Beautiful Game will be at the Design Museum from Friday the 8th of April until Monday the 29th of August 2022. More information about the exhibition can be found here.
